Isletsol

Isletsol is a young Korean female artist who paints still lifes in gouache. After graduating from the Department of Painting at Kookmin University in 2018, she has been working as a full-time artist. One of the most distinctive qualities of her work is the way she captures bright, radiant light within the picture plane. Flowers by the window, desserts, coffee, fruit, and other everyday objects appear in her paintings with a warm and cheerful atmosphere.

A particularly striking element in Isletsol’s work is her use of blue shadows. While shadows are often associated with darkness or weight, her bright blue shadows seem instead to hold light within them. They feel less like darkness and more like traces of where objects have gently rested, adding a soft rhythm and liveliness to the composition.

The artist also records landscapes and fleeting moments from her travels in her sketchbooks. Her bright personality and sensitive ability to notice light in everyday life naturally permeate her work. Through familiar objects and scenes, Isletsol’s paintings convey small joys and luminous moments of daily life with a refreshing sense of lightness.
