Not long ago, a Netflix drama called When Life Gives You Tangerines touched many hearts. In the story, the female lead’s late mother had lived in an old, worn-down house. Her husband secretly bought this house as a gift for her. When she received it, she wept as if she had gained the whole world. Why would she be so overjoyed at such a humble, aged place?
Because the space held memories—and the warmth of her mother’s love.
The best moments in life are often tied to particular places, etched in our minds like coordinates. But these coordinates are more than mere locations; they carry the sounds heard there, the scents in the air, the colors of light, and the temperature on the skin. Years later, encountering something similar, our limbic system replays those feelings like an old record. It’s not a new emotion but a revival of a past one. That is why certain landscapes can stir us instantly, as if we have always known them. Though we may share the same space, each of us lives within a different world inside our own mind.
In Healing Space, artist Namsook Kwon seeks to capture the stillness of nature, the warmth born from light and color, and deeply resonant moments of healing. The colors on the canvas are not merely images, but gentle embraces—a breath of comfort for the viewer. To experience the world more richly, one must go beyond simply looking and connect the scene to one’s own story.
